New Headphones, M-Audio Fast Track and Microphone.
This one might be really boring unless You’re into this kind of audio gear but I figured I would show this stuff off because I can really recommend these products if you’re looking for something like these. You’ve been warned! The Sony MDR-V6 Studio Headphones are in my opinion one of the best pairs of headphones you can buy for under 0. They sound so fantastic You will literally crap Your pants if You’re coming off the stock earbuds that came with your ipod! They are big and they do look like they’re from the 1980′s (because they actually are!) But if you want great sounding headphones to use at home these are amazing for the price. The M-Audio Fast Track is a small and simple device the plugs into your computers USB port and allows You to plug in an XLR Microphone, Guitar and 1/4″ Headphones. The sound is great and the drivers are simple. Basically just plug it in and go, there are no software settings all the adjustments are done with the analog knobs on the unit! The box is completely USB powered so it requires no AC plug. If You’re looking for a cheap way of recording Guitar or using higher quality XLR microphones this might be for You! The Behringer XM1800S is a cheap, Dynamic, XLR microphone but for ~USD (they’re usually sold in packs of 3 for ) it sure beats the sound quality from my Logitech headset. The plosion is much better so I find I don’t have to re-edit my voiceovers like I did on the Logitech headset whenever I said a P-word too fast!

How do you put the video and recording togeather ?
@JTXRAY I use Adobe Premiere so it’s not too hard to put any audio you want with any video you want.
How do you plug the mic into the computer?
Hi dude, ive just brought a sm48 for a m-audio fast track(the first one) and i cant seem to get the mic working, the xlr is plugged into the mic and into the m-audio interface but i cant record through cubase, what can i do ?

Have you tried the JVC Marshmallow earbuds? They are £10 – £15 in the UK and have a frequency response oHz to 23,000Hz, trust me the bass is outstanding and the treble is crystal clear. The mid range is good too

so if u got the M-Audio Fast Track.u can buy any type of headphones..

@ROONTANG Do you know what a IBM model M is or what it’s worth? They still sell them today for $70+ for NOS or ~$40 used and it’s considered one of the best keyboards off all time. It’s a fully mechanical keyboard like the Das Keyboards that sell for over $100 today. Some people like the metallic super clicky keys you get on these. It’s loud and clunky but you know when you hit the key! It’s super heavy duty hence it’s from the late 80′s but still works like new. I love the thing!

I used a crappy $30 MS keyboard for five years until it looked like a bomb had hit it, eventually went out and bought the exact same thing again, new! What ever floats your boat, I say!
That dynamic microphone certainly sounds far better than the logitech headset thing sounded, the mic on your headset sounded pretty horrible to be honest. I’ve also used Logitech USB headsets in the past and the microphones on the ones I’ve had actually sounded OK, I guess it depends on what model you have.

Do the Edifier speakers you have have a headphone output on them as some Logitech speakers do? I know you’ve said you have the Edifiers connected to your computer via the TOSlink/SPDIF connection, so when you want to use your headphones with the M-Audio Fast Track do you have a quick way to switch between the 2, or do you just use the sound option in your Control Panel to change over or just connect/disconnect the Fast Track?
@Lachlant1984 No headphone jack on the Edifiers would have been a nice feature since yeah they have their own DAC built in. It’s super easy and quick to change between them in Windows 7 just right click on the speaker volume button in the bottom right and you can pick from all your playback and recording devices right there.
@MN12BIRD OK, I haven’t really used Windows 7 much as I’m a Mac user now, but the ability to switch from different audio devices right from the desktop and system tray like that sounds very quick and convenient, using USB audio devices under Windows XP could sometimes be quite dicey if you remember doing that, it worked usually, but I find Mac OS to be a bit more robust at least when using my sister’s Logitech speakers.
@Lachlant1984 Actually the setup works just fine in XP also except I have to go into the control panel and sound options to change between the the playback or recording devices but it’s never been any issue switching. I often switch between listening to the realtek digital output on the Edifier speakers to the USB m-audio for headphones. You can also switch the playback device right in foobar when I’m listening to MP3s. But yeah it’s definitely quicker and easier in W7.
