A demonstration that compares the built-in mic on an iPhone 4S -vs- using a typical Bluetooth headset located near my ear in the typical jawbone position -vs- The Etymotic etyBLU2, an energy efficient and truly passive noise cancelling headset that features their directional noise cancelling boom microphone technology. Each segment of the test was done in a Scion xB accelerating up to 50 MPH and traveling on the H1 in Honolulu, Hawaii starting from the University Avenue on-ramp and travelling to the the Koko Head Avenue off-ramp during the afternoon rush hour. This demonstration allows you to listen and compare how the ability of each type of Hands Free solution handles engine noise, road noise, wind from open windows and a Pioneer Scion OEM stereo playing a radio station at volume level 23 out of 60 (with one short segment at a volume level of 35). The recording of the Bluetooth devices was accomplished with an App that allows you to use Bluetooth devices as an audio source for videos recorded with the iPhone 4S – - Unfortunately, this App introduces a slight echo to the audio of the Bluetooth devices. Let it be known that the App, and not the Bluetooth devices, is creating the echo. Please try to ignore the echo and listen for any background noise, or should I say, the lack of background noise when using the etyBLU2… Especially the wind noise when the windows are opened.
